The Ace You Haven’t Heard Of

The best pitcher you haven’t heard of is hiding in baseball’s largest media market. He was so ill thought of he was a Rule 5 draft pick — who was then RETURNED to the team he was picked from.

Jose Soriano is an absolute DOG, and it’s about time you learn about him. Because he’s a bonafide ace and has been building on a good season in 2025 — and looks GREAT in the early days of 2026

He throws ched, he has an excellent pitch mix, and he’s now generating chase and the whiffs are up through his first 3 starts.

Get used to the name, because there is a new Ace in LA — and he ain’t on the Dodgers.

Noodles and Company

It’s really no secret things are going poorly in Boston. The Red Sox are 2-8 and staring down the barrel of the Milwaukee Brewers Voodoo magic.

But perhaps another funnier (or sadder development) is with budding Superstar Roman Anthony. He’s hitting fine. It isn’t exciting but it isn’t outright bad or anything.

But his defense in Left Field — more particularly his outfield arm is the main cause for concern (or laughs)

There is a trend on Twitter/X pretty simply titled “Do Not Run on Roman”.

If you couldn’t tell by the video, it’s pretty obvious Roman has a case of the yips and it isn’t a new phenomenon

Anthony has a 6th percentile Arm Value in baseball right now — hard to imagine what the hell the players below that look like — but what the hell happened?

Last season he was a 52nd percentile in arm strength with a mediocre valuation but it was never this bad.

Hopefully for Roman’s sake he gets over his yips. And hopefully for the Red Sox sake the rest of the team can figure out how to hit and pitch, too.

What is the NL East?

Thus far about 10 games into the young MLB season I can’t really figure out what the NL East is. There are probably 3 good teams in this division? But are they really? Are the Marlins gonna be scrappy enough to challenge those 3? Can the Braves stop getting hurt? Can the Mets stop being boneheads? Are the Nats the worst team in baseball?

Let’s talk about that (no graphics today, the HTML code is frying my brain as I type this and watch One Shining Moment)

T-1st Place — Miami Marlins (6-4) — 4-2 in L7 Days — L1 Streak

This team just continues to hit but can that continue? The cracks started to show on Monday as they dropped a 2-0 contest to the Reds

Edwards, Caissie, Loepz, and Sanoja are hitting for now, but nothing about their careers (albeit short ones) points to this sustained success… nor does their pitching really.

But maybe… just maybe?

Upcoming 7 days: 3 vs Reds, 3 @ Tigers, 1 @ Braves

T-1st Place — New York Mets (6-4) — 3-3 in L7 Days — W3 Streak

After a rough stretch of games against the Cards and Giants, the Mets had to swallow an injury that looks to sideline Juan Soto for the next few weeks.

But that’s when Mark Vientos decided to step up and carry the offense. That guy couldn’t buy a hit in Spring Training (and most of 2025), but he seems to have found something that could buoy the Mets offense that has risen from bottom ten to 9th i Runs per game

Coupled with a Nolan McLean breakout and we can start considering this team legit

Upcoming 7 days: 3 vs DBacks, 3 vs A’s, 1 @ LAD

T-1st Place — Philadelphia Phillies (6-4) — 5-1 in L7 days — W1 Streak

Deciding whether or not to trust a team based on games against the Nats, Rockies, and this version of the Giants… that’s a tough call

But if you remove one bad night from Brad Keller, the Phillies bullpen has only allowed 1 run in April thus far. That element is the only part of this team I don’t trust to figure it out eventually. So if that unit can pull its weight, this is the favorite moving forward

Upcoming 7 days: 2 @ Giants, 3 vs DBacks, 1 vs Cubs

4th Place — Atlanta Braves (6-5) — 3-4 in L7 days — L3 Streak

It was already hard to trust this team could weather the starting pitching it has lost, but that was before Martin Perez and more importantly Chris Sale got brutalized in their last starts.

They still have 5 everyday hitters with .800 or better OPS in their first 11 games, but they need to figure out what the hell their rotation is going to be moving forward.

Upcoming 7 days: 2 @ Angels, 3 vs Guardians, 1 vs Marlins

5th Place — Washington Nationals (4-6) — 1-5 in L7 days - W1 Streak

Boy did James Wood really save what could have been some BAD vibes with his 3 run HR and robbery of another long ball in their 9-6 win over the Cardinals.

It was looking a little dark there, and frankly I’m not sure if Nats fans should count on that to turn around.

To avoid a full segment of gloom and doom, Abrams/Garcia Jr/Wiemer are performing like trade-able assets, and Griffin and Cavalli are at least looking like they can belong in the next winning rotation the Nationals can piece together

Upcoming 7 days: 2 vs Cardinals, 3 @ Brewers, 1 @ Pirates
