Trying yet another new format thank you all for bearing with me. Touching on some angle from every game of the day. Best tweets I saw, best highlights, storylines, etc.
Rays 8, Pirates 7 (13)
In the never ending baseball game the Rays “bested” the Pirates, in what would more aptly be described as the team that survived the clusterfuck.
It was a 6.5 hour game that saw the start time moved but but still incurred a 2 hour rain delay with hurricane force winds and a disastrous tarp pull:
Call me crazy but if I had Paul Skenes lined up to start, I would probably postpone my game so my ace wouldn’t get cut short
Probably the play that best exemplifies what happened that caused the Pirates to lose:
Mullins 2 run go ahead shot brought it hope for the Rays, and Chandler Simpson took out Konner Griffin with a not dirty but less than clean slide (Griffin appeared to be okay and delivered an RBI in the 13th)
Yankees 13, Royals 4
The Royals continue to be an unserious baseball team
But at least they weren’t these Yankees fans
But perhaps the biggest storyline of the day happened postgame, when Manager Matt Quatraro suggest that maybe start catcher Salvador Perez might need a mental break… to which the star veteran might disagree with
Reds 5, Twins 4
Taj Bradley continues to fly under the radar:
Shelty got sauced without even trying!
And KeBryan Hayes got possibly the worst ricocchet shot these eyes have ever seen
Hope the wedding went better than the end of the game!
Cubs 4, Mets 2
The Mets just simply cannot get out of their own way, dropping their 10th straight ballgame
How bad is it getting in Queens? Three glasses bad
Giants 7, Nationals 6 (12)
Drew Gilbert got called back up to the Giants and was reunited with his college manager, the oft disparaged Tony Vitello.
And it was just a good case of guys being dudes
James Wood continues to be AWESOME
Giants wiggled out of a crazy jam in the 10th with one of the weirder plays you’ll see
Vibes in the Nats clubhouse might be looking like this after the game
A’s 7, White Sox 6 (11)
Joey Gallo has been reincarnated in Muni Murakami and it’s beautiful
Tigers 4, Red Sox 1
If you want to know how the first inning went:
Obviously quite tongue-in-cheek (he threw 34) but the Tigers never looked back from the 1st inning. Skubal had 10 more K’s as he toyed with the Sox lineup all day.
Brewers 5, Marlins 2
The Miz was the 2nd player to be gifted one of the Pokemon card gloves, and he might have even topped Klein’s
A somewhat uneventful contest but Turang continued his torrid start
Guardians 4, Orioles 2
Gavin Williams punched ELEVEN (11) tickets on Saturday night
Cardinals 7, Astros 5
Yordan Alvarez heard Jordan Walker was coming for his season lead on Ding Dongs and decided to smoke one right in his grill
Astros now have 14 losses on the season however, and they need to find good pitching FAST.
Braves 3, Phillies 1
We had a pair of very fun moments early in this ball game, including a home run robbery on the very first pitch of the day
And then we had a Home Run in a very first AB!
But that was about the only excitement for the Phillies today
Mariners 7, Rangers 3
Listen, I love Josh Naylor as much as the next guy. Steals bags like someone half his size. But this was an ALL-TIME bad send by the 3B coach
Rockies 4, Dodgers 3
I want to do the Rockies justice for their big win, but I need to cap tip to Dalton Rushing for an insane opening stretch of his big league career
The Rockies bullpen has been nothing short of OUTSTANDING this season, as they went 3.1 scoreless to hold onto the lead and the W. Troy Johnston needs to be on everyone’s radar (.305 BA, .851 OPS)
DBacks 6, Blue Jays 2
There’s a lot of consternation about the back end of the Blue Jays bullpen and for very good reason
Padres 4, Angels 1
Jackson Merrill continues to be a fucking menace to hitters everywhere
And at the same time Mason Miller just keeps abusing opposing hitters
Padres fans are getting spoiled and their opponents are possibly owed civil settlements at this point, maybe even criminal prosecution should be on the table for ASSAULT.
Kikuchi tried to take matters into his own hands but Cronenworth is just too metal for him
