Happy 4/20 everybody, let’s get right into it
Cubs 2, Mets 1 (10)
Ah man. When it rains it pours, and it must seem like Noah’s Flood in Flushing, Queens. The Mets snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on Sunday
Holding a 1 run lead heading in the 8th when Devin Williams allowed a Michael Conforto double into the corner to tie the game at 1.
And then if you’ll believe it Craig Kimbrel was the one who let up the game winning run.
But perhaps the most puzzling thing of all, was not walking Nico Hoerner to get to .164 hitting Michael Busch with 2 outs in the 10th → and he rewarded that stupidity with a flying W
The Mets faithful are losing their minds over Mendoza’s comments and rightfully so. 11 straight losses, and this one with added ammunition? Don’t be shocked if the Mets do something drastic on Monday
Rockies 9, Dodgers 6
Well I’ll be god-damned
I am not going to be called a Rockies believer any time soon, but I am loving this color on them. Dodgers Killers.
Mickey Moniak (.960 OPS) hit his 6th HR of the year and his career trajectory has SOARED since coming to Coors. It’s been such a cool thing to watch
But on the flip side, in such a sad turn of events, Edwin Diaz — not having pitched in 9 days — couldn’t even record an out as he let up the decisive 3 runs to balloon his season ERA to a gaudy 10.50
A big old fuck you goes out to Dalton Rushing, how’s that for fishy!
Reds 7, Twins 4 (10)
The NL Central voodoo is clearly transferrable because the Reds have sapped it away from the Brewers.
Cincinnati, with the worst run differential in the league, have the best record in said league. And oh by the way, the NL Central is the only division with 5 winning records.
So clearly this fluke nasty team must run out of luck eventually… right?
Well that day was NOT Sunday. As the unethical baseball team earned another victory in a glaringly unethical manor
They scored 3 runs in the 9th off of Andrew Morris in the 9th and then they scored 3 unearned runs in the 10th to complete an entirely improbable comeback.
It might be time to bet on regression but I think I’m more than likely gonna bet on witchcraft and find the best price on a Reds’ Central title.
Pirates 6, Rays 3
After the marathon game Saturday night, I’ll fully admit I was not expecting a rebound from the Battlin’ Bucs. But on the back of Mitch Keller (2.79 ERA) who diced to the tune of 7 IP, 5K, 2 ER giving the Pirates much leaded length to give their ailing bullpen a break.
I also wrote last week that I wasn’t terribly worried about Marcell Ozuna’s horrifically slow start, and he has rewarded that faith, adding a 2B today to bring his week’s OPS to 1.061
While the Reds continue to win under nefarious circumstances the Pirates appear content to karma farm the old fashioned way:
Yankees 7, Royals 0
I called the Royals unserious yesterday. But holy shit did they SPRINT to double down on that notion
I didn’t say they were sprinting fast
Things are getting testy in KC
To add to this misery, Cole Ragans has seen his ERA climb once again up to 6.00 on the season.
To give the Bronx Bombers a little shine, I am not talking about Ben Rice enough. I called him an MVP candidate and that STILL isn’t enough.
He launched his 8th Home Run of the season on Sunday Judge blasted his 9th) and the top of the Yankees order is absolutely proving to be the best 1-2 punch in the game right now
Cardinals 7, Astros 5 (10)
Houston really can’t catch a break. Once again Mike Burrows delivered a lackluster start for the Stros. It’s another in a long line, which is why they have a league worst 6.11 ERA.
In what was definitely one of the weirder games of the day we saw one of the whackier plays of the week:
Who the fuck isn’t winning in the NL Central right now?
Marlins 5, Brewers 3
Oh that’s right… it’s the Brewers. Now 4-6 in the L10, they’re the only team that things aren’t going right for in the best division in the game.
But I want to focus on the Fish.
Eury Perez dazzled once again, throwing 6 shutout innings with 7 punchies and outdueled the Miz, who tried returning newly activated Kyle Stowers right back to the IL where he came from
But don’t you worry Fish Friends as Stowers stayed in the game and went 2-3 with a double to aid in the Marlins victory.
Nationals 3, Giants 0
Do you know how hard it is to be shut out by Miles Mikolas?
Well the Giants achieved that feat on Sunday as the Nationals scattered SF’s 8 hits en route to a 3-0 victory in our Nations’ capital.
The Nats finally got offense from people not named James Wood (.931 OPS) / CJ Abrams (1.029 OPS) as Curtis Mead belted a Home Run for the only offense DC needed on the day.
There isn’t a lot good to talk about the Giants right now but at least they have a good sense of humor in the Bay
Guardians 8. Orioles 4
The Guardians continue to pace the AL Central and stay ahead of the surging Tigers by beating the Orioles and whooping on Taylor Rodgers for 6 runs/5 Earned (4.08 ERA)
In large part that damage was done by Jose Ramirez who continues to build an EXTREMELY compelling MVP case here in the early goings
But more importantly congrats to Austin Hedges!
White Sox 7, Athletics 4
If you would have told the White Sox before the season they signed Kyle Schwarber they would have been thrilled, but turns out they got the guy for 2/$34M instead of 5/$150M
Murakami has now homered in 3 straight games:
The White Sox might not be a great baseball team, but they certainly are a fun offense right now
Padres 2, Angels 1
Another day, another Mason Miller masterclass
Ho-Hum I say
Mariners 5, Rangers 2
In what is clearly the anti-NL Central, the AL West now does not feature a SINGULAR team with a winning record after the Rangers loss sunday to bring their record to 11-11.
Bryan Woo (2.25 ERA) was delightful, going 7 innings with 6 K and only 2 Earned, while his counterpart Mackenzie Gore got pieced for 5 runs in 5 innings, to see his season long ERA climb to 4.15 (and it happened fast)
Blue Jays 10, DBacks 4
Speaking of getting jumped on early, holy shit did the Jays POUNCE on poor Ryne Nelson.
Meanwhile Kevin Gausman continues to be the 2nd monster in the Blue Jays rotation, as he went 6 strong to only 2 ER and helped bring Toronto’s record to 8-13… if only anyone else besides Cease and Gausman could pitch on this team.
Braves 4, Phillies 2

The Phillies are another team that has to find meaning outside of their actual baseball product, as they were swept by the Braves to extend their 5 game losing streak and fall to 2-8 in their Last 10.
But on the other hand, my declared WAGONS the Atlanta Braves continue to be the only team in the top TWO of ERA and OPS on the season. Studs.
At 15-7 they are pulling away early in the NL East and I like them to continue to run this thing all season long.
Tigers 6, Red Sox 2
In the only series that did not conclude on Sunday — the Boston Strong game will be at 11:10 tomorrow morning — we continued to see the cliff dive that Garrett Crochet is taking.
5 Earned in 5 innings after the Twins fiasco last week just isn’t what you wanted to see in a bounce back. 3 of his Last 4 starts have resulted in him allowing AT LEAST 5 runs.
His season ERA now sits at 7.88 and the Red Sox continue to flounder at the bottom of the AL East (8-13)
Maybe the people of Boston can drag them out of this funk and back into competitive form.
